Toward a Research Network on Theology and the Catholic Abuse Crisis
    Villanova University, November 1, 2019

The Department of Theology and Religious Studies at Villanova University is organizing a day of study to take place November 1, 2019 on the sexual abuse crisis in the Catholic Church and its theological roots and consequences.

This meeting, sponsored by the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at Villanova University, will be a first step on the path towards an interdisciplinary and international network of scholars conducting research on the meaning and impact of the abuse crisis on theology and on the theological work that is still needed to open a process of institutional and theological reform in the Church.

We invite proposals for short papers on various theological issues raised by the sexual abuse crisis in the Catholic Church. These issues include, but are not limited to: Scripture and Tradition; ecclesiology, liturgy and sacramental theology; spirituality; anthropology; Christian initiation; formation to ministry; and Church-State relations.

The meeting will begin with a two-hour session (3-5 PM in Falvey 205) in which brief papers and research proposals will be shared in a seminar setting.

Starting at 6:00 PM in Bartley 1011, Dr. Richard Lennan (Boston College School of Theology and Ministry) will present a public lecture: Seeking the Right Side of History: Theology and the Sexual Abuse Crisis.

For more information and to submit a paper proposal (a 200-word abstract and a short bio), please contact Dr. Massimo Faggioli (mfaggiol@villanova.edu) before September 30, 2019.
